At HARE+HART, we are a bit obsessive about the quality of our leather. By “a bit obsessive”, we mean to downplay the fact we have spent untold hours talking about grain, grade, patina and overall quality of our leathers so many times, some might describe us as being afflicted with L.O.C.D (Leather Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). And we’re okay with that.
Due to this leather neurosis, we only source the highest quality vegetable-tanned leather for our products. Our leathers are tanned using plant-based extracts that don’t create the same environmentally hazardous waste as the standard chrome tanning process. Not only does this ensure that no heavy metals are unleashed into the environment during the tanning process, but the color of the leather develops depth and dimension unachievable through industrial chrome processing. For us leather geeks, this is the ultimate in fine hides.
So like a great wine (we had to mention our other obsession somewhere), your bag will continue to evolve and develop as it ages. Our nappa leathers will develop a rich patina, adding a deeper hue and texture to your bag, and our cowhides will give way to the raw, natural hide underneath.
Thoreau once wrote that “things do not change; we change”. While we’d hate to tell Henry he’s wrong, our leathers will evolve with you and in spite of you, and we hope you find this as exciting as we do.
